Developing Unstoppability

"Once a person is determined to help themselves, there is nothing that can stop them." —Nelson Mandela
Determination is a powerful word. Just saying it can make you feel stronger.

Most of those who hire me as their coach are determined to help themselves, which makes it so much fun for me to work with them. They are unstoppable!

But getting to that place of determination is not always easy. You may feel like a victim of circumstances or like your life is out of control. You may feel completely helpless in light of what's happening in your life right now.

We can't always choose our circumstances, but we can choose how we will respond to them. Take Nelson Mandela, for instance. He spent 27 years in prison, and yet he found inner freedom even within the prison walls. True liberation is a matter of the heart, not circumstances. Because of Mandela, apartheid ended in South Africa. Three years after being released from prison, Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Do you feel imprisoned by your circumstances? Are you determined to overcome them? Start by changing the way you respond. Focus on what you do want, rather than on what's wrong.

"...whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things [...] and the God of peace will be with you." -St. Paul
