What Do You Want Out of Life?
"If we would only give the same amount of reflection to what we want out of life that we give to the question of what to do with two weeks' vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days." —Dorothy Canfield FisherI confess. I would love to lie around on a beach for a couple of weeks with nothing to do but enjoy the sun and surf. In fact, it would not be hard for me to be a professional beach bum (if I didn't have to earn a living). And I can get very motivated when it comes to planning an exciting trip somewhere.
But what do I want out of life? That's a big question. It's much easier to settle into a routine, even a boring or life-draining one, than to wrestle with that question. It's much easier to keep doing what I'm doing than to do something new.
But I think there's an even bigger question. What does Life want out of me?
"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." —Mother Teresa
